rFactor - how-to

EDIT: see sig for current mods

I am having a bit of a graphics glitch with the Skoda.. In what I think is bumper cam, I have some vertical "fins" in front of me.. Distracting.. Anyone else?

If I'm not mistaken, the only time people can join the server when anyone else is on is during the initial practice session, right? Might be nice to set the practice to maybe an hour, give folks a chance to join.. You can always go to next session with a vote, right? Lemme know, I can alter that setting anytime.

No problems with skoda, just some fps lag in mid-ohio but is still playable.
As for practice, a longer session is ok for me but beware: you can only advance if there's at least 2 real players. So if you race only with AI you have to wait the session end.

Alphonse! Saw you on the server for a sec... You get the mods loaded? I also added Road Atlanta back on there, folks, at SF's request. If you had the previous mods still there, should be good to go.

PS - I went onto the server & put Road Atlanta back on there too, so keep that mod, or download here:

And I think I will set practice time to an hour; can always vote to jump to qualifying, and the extra time gives folks time to get on.. OK?

It was special indeed to see 3 fellow Redliners on the track. Dandy is still the man, and I'm pretty sure Kenners was faster, just had some misshap or such. Alphonse is also faster than me, even on the first day having never used that car or tracks!

So much fun. I had two penalties for early starting. Holy crap, i thought 3-2-1-go.

once my engine was on fire. me were looking like nikki lauda now most probably, as i did not realize it and tried all to keep on track.
once i had a failure after a crash with my front left suspension.

after all much fun in mp with you guys - thanks.

the skoda seems to be an easy drive, compared to others.

Well.. At Mid-Ohio, the AI cars do "talk", right? But seriously, for me it's late in the day (middle of the night over there) or weekends. Soon I'm going to start taking one afternoon a week off, maybe we can make it a regular meeting time.

Got rFactor up and running this evening in CrossOver Games. Unfortunately rFactor Lite was a no-go; the CrossTie installer couldn't download it from the server. Full fat rFactor is running nicely though, did some offline laps and it felt pretty good. Next to figure out how I plug-ins without breaking everything.

I'm assuming you guys paid to unlock rFactor.

It's 5 activation till you have to renew, by email, at no charge.
Or, you can back up your Trymedia folder:

* rFactor Trymedia License folder is located at (Windows XP):

CrossTie files are cool little scripts that automate the install process for Windows apps and games in CrossOver (WINE) for Mac. I'd like to see about updating the server a little more regularly. As a first step, I'd like to put the "V8 Unleashed" car mod on there; then, maybe a couple of the tracks that are up & coming in the Race2Play site, with the expectation that we (or at least I) can have some participation in some of the races there.

I have no idea what is played in rfactor these days, honestly i can hardly await to spend some bucks on rfactor 2 - even if it were just to see what is possible im sim racing today and if the mac hardware is capable to handle it...

I looked at the events coming up that used the V8 Supercars that Dandy referred to.. For any particular event, there's a list of files needed. That's where those links came from - download and install. I think I'll install them & configure Li'l RLer server to host them. Look for me over the weekend, early evening in the Eurozone...

I'm thinking of updating Li'l RLer Server again. I'd like to have more of a choice, as in maybe have the Skoda and the V8 mods both available.. and then put the tracks on there for upcoming R2P events. Is this feasible? I do have the Skoda mod downloaded (and the skins), but not yet installed.

I didn't think server set ups could run more than one race series type at a time. But what do I know. hehe

Well, in the server, it appears you can select "all tracks & vehicles" at the first screen, then select specifically which cars to allow in the second, and then which tracks in the third. So.. then you can choose the car you want when you join. The downside: If there's AIs, they could be any car, and if someone joins, they could pick any car. But, workable.

Dang, SF, must have just missed you on Li'l RLer Server.. Ran the Skoda in a practice round to work on tire pressures.. How come DNF? Blow an engine?

that is very cool. Like a Propeller Race Works test circuit! It's great that you guys tweak the set ups. Every time I go in there to try stuff I end up braking something and the car drives badly. Love the fact that you and Dandy work on set ups. I'm having a hard enough time to do half decent times.
