So the Apple Support article says:
* Distorted or scrambled video on the computer screen
* No video on the computer screen (or external display) even though the computer is on

This may be a dumb question, but what do you think they mean when they use term "video" ? Is just simply any activity that requires the graphics card?
Surely they mean Quicktime, or WMV, FLV's, like Youtube, but does that include how games like Redline display images?
I ask because a while back I talked to Apple techs about the display issues I was having in Redline and they more or less dismissed it out of hand. I got the usual "you need to talk to the developer of Redline" response.

Alphonse, can you describe what you were seeing in general and specifically how it related to Redline. Slow does this sound like what you are experiencing?

Hey Toad,

my fps fell and were less and less. The Computer got really hot, not only warm.
And one day, no video whatsoever was around. Black screen after the Startup chaim. Nothing else, nor interior or external display.

That's about it...

Got my MBP (late 2008) 7 days ago.
Had about 10 black outs on screen since then. The Processor shows 90 Degrees Celsius (wow).

Just came from reading this Discussion @Apple .

So its about time for an exchange...

Just to let you know - as we had a discussion on black-outs yesterday in mp...

That was about my MacMini having sudden restarts (or shutdowns with the restart on power failure enabled) when gaming. Hop seems to have a similar problem with his MacBookPro, but I have no idea if old or new.
I looked through several forums, but haven't found anything conclusive. Looks like it already happened to people using 10.4.7 in the days long gone.

My Mini at work (first Core Duo model - 1.66GHz) would restart randomly - could make it happen with perfect reliability by running two copies of Chess.app, each running an AI vs AI game on the most skilled settings. Each core gets pegged to 100% (one per app), and then when the CPU temperature hits 80C, whammo, reboot.

It was replaced, and the replacement has behaved perfectly.

My old G5 randomly shut off for a few days, then died. It turned out to be the power supply, and after fixing, it worked fine. It also solved a longer running problem of fan noise.

Hmm, I got to try that. I have the same processor.
Did you only have the processor replaced or the whole logic board?
