Lion, first impressions? Empty Lion, first impressions?

Did anybody get it yet? As always for major OS releases I like to be slightly behind the first wave, just to see if there's a great white hiding in the surf. Cool

Lion, first impressions? Empty PowerPC

Post  theSnail .@y Fri Jul 22, 2011 9:21 am

Plugin Packer, Redline Model Importer, Redline Texture Compressor among others are PowerPC applications, which cannot run with Lion No People who need them and other old stuff need to keep a way to start snow leopard …

At the moment, and even though Lion is inexpensive, I have no need for it. I need 2 or 3 PowerPC apps more. I'll spend some time looking for new versions or alternate solutions Crying or Very sad

I have installed lion, it's a great step for sure.
Also in 2 days of use, I've not noticed big problems, redline run smooth as usual, the system is generally faster than snow leo.
Plugin packer and so on are not working but, and this is great, you can run an old os x version under parallel/vmware...
I have an ATI card but have not noticed issues with openCL, I'll check better in the next days.

kop

edit: just tried to install snow leo under parallel: no way because parallel need a server version. Waiting for an update.

Lion, first impressions? Empty roarr

It runs smoothly and fine. I was surprised how well it works on my 3-years old MacMini with 2GB Ram only. It feels like a faster computer now.

@snail: I fear the Redline plugin development era was over already before Lion started.

So true, and I dont really care about those apps, but I still have some others that need replacement before I switch to Lion Exclamation The fact that it seems to runs faster on your mini (the same as mine I think - early 2009 ?) might make me want to switch faster than I thought bounce

Snowy is running perfectly for me and I have my nice SSD TRIM support hack installed so I'll let y'all beta test for the next 6 months Razz and wait to see if Apple decide to stop being assholes with TRIM support in Lion.
