DEADLINE: MAY 4th
greetings my fellow redline addicts. first and foremost i must apologize to you all for the lengthy absence of mine from the community. yet unfortunately sometimes real life has its certain circumstances. i simply have not had the time in the week to participate as i once have.
as to the legacy news. on may 4th the contract on legacy servers is expiring. i have no interest in renewing them for the money required i do not possess nor the time to maintenance and update legacy. for the last almost year our buddy alphonse has taken care of all the behind the scenes actions. unfortunately his time and resources are becoming more limited as well. so here are my three ideas for possible options:
1) i hand over all data and control of legacyoflies.com to someone that will continue to run the entire package AS IS on their own servers and control
2) we raise enough money through donations to continue legacy operation and its servers as well finding someone to take over administrative responsibilities
3) legacy dies may 4th
i welcome all suggestions and opinions. i would hate to see legacy come to an end yet i myself must admitt i am no longer the part of the community i used to be. life goes on and with it it brings changes. i just hope in the next two weeks we can find a solution we all are happy and comfortable with. my best to you all and thank you all for the great memories and vast amount of fun i have had in the last 4 years here

Re: DEADLINE: MAY 4th
I'd be happy to contribute to the cause. No idea how much that would be, though. Can you give us some idea of what it costs? There's web site space, which includes the LoL pages, and the FTP space, and the forum, right? Is that all under one account/one web host? And is teamspeak part of that too? I also expect you pay for how much bandwidth gets used, or is it "up to so much, then extra $$ if it goes over"?
I do have a reasonably fast internet connection (10MB/3MB) at the office, but before I'd be able to commit to anything, I'd need some stats on how much bandwidth is used every month.. And I wouldn't have time to do much behind the scenes work on the web pages or anything, but as long as someone like Alphonse is around, it might be workable to host it there.
Leo, I've missed you in MP races, and I can't express how much I appreciate the LoL site, the forums, and the space to place projects and plug-ins! No matter what happens, I'm sure we all hope to hear from you once in a while.
Kenners aka Andrew

Re: DEADLINE: MAY 4th
Howdy hoo Leo,
Is this forum part of that package? I enjoy coming to this forum and seeing what my online friends are up to, and I enjoy it enough to support for a little while longer with a certain amount of real cash money $£€.
As to the LoL website: I find myself playing Redline nowadays only when I see that my friends are coming together for a tournament or big race, but I can see that Redline will certainly die for new players once LoL is gone... but then where are the new players?... and of course once we all upgrade to Lion there will be no new plug-ins to put on LoL because the tool chest will cease to function...

Re: DEADLINE: MAY 4th
Hey Leo, long time without you... What you wrote is what I was fearing! I would to have the same infos Kenners asking. I have a no limit bandwidth server on which we can transfer all the stuffs, but it has limited store space. I would to aim to keep the forum and all its data online as long as it possible, pls let me know how I can contribute...
Re: DEADLINE: MAY 4th
@leo, you know me, if there enough people to donate and keep it up, count me in...... if not, I can take all the files and host them on server with a simple file directory listing.
amped makes a good point on the ASW forum - even though Leo told him not to reply there. I guess he got his sexy pants in a twist and just had to do it. Although I keep all my plug-ins safely hosted on my website, many people don't have the resource to do so and there are many plug-ins that would be homeless or orphaned without LoL.
Leo, let us know what is needed and we'll argue amongst ourselves.

Re: DEADLINE: MAY 4th
Well, I have 40GB and 400GB month bandwidth on my mobileme account, on which i host from years all the software/updaters I made for the italian macgamers community. Is not a problem to host all the Leo files, what I need to know is:
monthly bandwidth!
Cause if is more the 400GB month, I can expand the bw to 600GB month...

Re: DEADLINE: MAY 4th
Hey guys,
I'm sorry cause I disappeared but life is getting all my time
Anyway I'd be happy to contribute in some way. If I get it right you and Alphonse cannot admin this space so some admin are needed and money to pay hosting too.
How much money are needed to realize point 2? I can admin it if someone else will help.

Re: DEADLINE: MAY 4th
It think its worth to think about it again.
I was maintaining lol for a year. started well, but with that few sim races going on and the development of cars/tracks was good but not as good as in the golden times its worth to mention that maybe redline sim racing is dead already. i dont see anyone racing sim these past months. Not to stop any enthusiasm - isn't it time to let it go?
I have Serverspace available and with someone like kopje helping out it would be a pleasure to keep it up for another year. Last years bill @ godaddy was around 100 Euros. Not that much for sure.
I for myself lost the enthusiasm for Redline sim racing as i see nobody else organizing tournaments, and daily hosting is no longer existant. If many of you feel like its not yet the time to let it die - we can for sure keep it up. But i doubt honestly its worth it.
my 2 cents,
alf

Redline is dead for sure but the corpse is still warm. Isn't it traditional to spend a year in mourning?alphonse wrote:maybe redline sim racing is dead already [...] isn't it time to let it go?
If 100 Euros is all it takes, this is a no-brainer imho.

Re: DEADLINE: MAY 4th
Depending on the bandwidth needed, maybe just host an FTP site - post a URL, let people go to it, look at plugin listings, grab what they need. And maybe Snail can rework RLPAU to access the same FTP link.
I hate thinking about this, just when I'm busting my butt getting the other part of the 'Ring done... What's the point? I'll finish it, though, if only for my own enjoyment.

Re: DEADLINE: MAY 4th
NP.
Letting it live for another year was the reason i paid the 100 Euros a year ago and maintaned lol as good as i could and time allowed it.
If we get the approx 100 Euros we could just leave it up and running where it is, as it is (so RLPAU still works, old links still work etc.) - the best solution imo.
But - for me it would be the 2nd time another year to let it die
I ll for sure find some time to keep lol about updated, maybe with some help around.
Up to you,
alf

Re: DEADLINE: MAY 4th
100 Euros? Shouldn't we find some donators and divide the 100 Euros amongst themselves? So I would take part in this rescue operation to continue the contract.
I wonder why so less sim races are taking place these days. Often I see sim guys browsing the forums - so there must be still interest ...
Ambrosia should reinforce their advertising for Redline

Re: DEADLINE: MAY 4th
ummh, I think should not hard find 100 Euros for maintaining LoL as it is, but I think is useless. I mean, what we should aim is to save all the files on it for loooong timing. I have 40GB on mobileme available and 400GB monthly bandwidth... I suppose there isn't the same traffic on the lol server as gold time, as Alphonse state.
My mobileme account is part of my Cloud so it will always online and available, cause is part of the yearly fee my company pay. What is scaring me is the forum... I don't want to lost it! Is the unique way to stay in touch with all, or at least, with who is continuing to post here...

Re: DEADLINE: MAY 4th
I dunno why i am writing so much
Well 100 Euros i sent to leo via the Paypal Button on the legacyoflies.com website ("Donate"). You did never use it - really? wow. Not sure if 100 Euros is enough or leo still wants to hold the contract - but it were the easiest option. Having files available is nice of course. But legacyoflies.com is the name, and RLPAU is the tool working as is only with legacyoflies.com. Do not forget this
Having kopje on board to keep lol updated would be a really good solution imo.
Let leo chime in and tell us if its okay for him to have the money contributed to his paypal-account and the contract still running with him (aswell as the website legacyoflies.com dedicated to Redline-Sim thingies).

$25, $50 no problems. What is that in today's money? 10€ or something? Heck, last time I paid was in 2007, time to shove some cash over the pond.

Re: DEADLINE: MAY 4th
It would be interesting to see a statistic over the last year of the number of accesses to the hosted files if possible.
Maybe Leo should disclose the costs he needed for settling all invoices so we all know what we have to speak about.
PS: While creating Mugello I was really thinking about placing a banner within the track: "Redline forever!" ;-) I feared I was making the track for myself because already 2 month ago there have been so little sim races ...
Yourself said the bill was 100 Euro and after we used this amount as a basis for discussion. ;-)alphonse wrote:I dunno why i am writing so much
