Wet in the trunk
recently found the reason why my trunk gets damp during baths and showers ... any recommendations on how to bring the rubber back to memory
Re: Wet in the trunk
Yikes, a split in the rubber. That can be dangerous.leoantix wrote:recently found the reason why my trunk gets damp during baths and showers ... any recommendations on how to bring the rubber back to memory

Re: Wet in the trunk
you guys are no help at all ... and no split just a fold in the rubber on the truck wondering if there is a way to teach it good againPax-raider wrote:Yikes, a split in the rubber. That can be dangerous.
Re: Wet in the trunk
Pinch it back into shape and carefully apply some gaffer tape to hold it in place, keep it on for a few days until the rubber retains its original shape...?

Re: Wet in the trunk
*cough* sorry leo, couldn't resist. The non-Americans probably didn't get the rubber joke anyway (check definition 16)...leoantix wrote:

If its not split then dj is probably right, you might be able to massage it back into a cylindrical shape. If that doesn't work you might try laying something compressible over that bit to build it up to the same height as the rest of the seal.

Re: Wet in the trunk
Heat gun or nothing I think. With a serious pinch like that it'll probably never be right. Check wreckers or new replacement - can't be that expensive or hard to pull the trunk off? You don't want to kludge where water's involved.leoantix wrote:recently found the reason why my trunk gets damp during baths and showers ... any recommendations on how to bring the rubber back to memory
EDIT: Come to think of it, that's probably not an endless piece - just pull out, snap in, maybe some glue...easy.
Unrelated advice for the day - don't park under a tall Black Walnut tree in autumn.
