Race Series in 2010
Hey - i am still here, even if not showing up too much for simming these days
It were nice to have some sim-games going on per day, but since "Redline Alert" i happen to see many, me including, to join when a game is open. Not before. The silly talks in the lobby are a good explanation of this behaviour.
I just wonder... the long races are becoming more and more rare.
I am not aware of any race-series being planned for the next time (11,5 month for example).
Val not organizing a Dakar-Tournament is the drop that was needed that i open a new topic here.
What do you expect for this year as when it comes to organized Redline racing.
Please feel free and be just honest.
It can be "nothing at all" or - what i would prefer - an idea.
I still hope for a mini-tournament and am ready to provide some time for it.
GT4 would be fun, for sure.
A Dakar-thingy might be worth it - am not sure if its the redline-racing i like most - but it will be surely fun.
rallies on new tracks every week for 5 weeks... snail and octopussy?
I was really missing the rumble-cup 3rd edition a lot. that should be feasible too...
please let me / us know what you feel like or even are planning...
at least some kind of scheduling would be nice - if there is any interest at all...
thanks!

Re: Race Series in 2010
Hi Alphonse,
Thanks for bringing this up.
I am definitely into having a tournament with the mini if that is what you meant.
GT4 would also be fun. Im not really into the rally stuff as I find the redline physics and my own inability to race them fail this type of racing terribly.
Let me know if there is anything I can do to help out in setting this up. Even though my computer illiteracy limits this greatly.
Thanks again.

Re: Race Series in 2010
Hi I am planning something new and I call it After Work Racing Series. Right now I'm not sure of how to collect all the data I would like to have, so some details not complete. I am working on coding the web pages and all the graphics. I was going to start soon but really needed this time to get this stuff complete. Also in the works is or I should say going to do. I will be running my game server and collecting basic stats which I will be post on my web server @ http://generalpita.com/ The days that I do this my server will be called (My House Race Time).
Cya on the track----Ready Race Go !!!!!! G.P.

Re: Race Series in 2010
Hi again I am still planning to have a series race but now I am injured. I don't know how long it will take till I can race again looks like maybe a week or less. I ripped a muscle in my right arm at the elbow lifting to much. Doctor gave me steroids so healing time is much faster then I expected. I have also run into a problem with getting my cgi script to work. I was trying to use it for sign up for the series. I am starting to think it doesn't work on my old computer with os 9.
see you on the track soon as possible G.P.

Re: Race Series in 2010
Bummer. Sorry to hear that GP. Hope you get better soon. Easy on those steroids or you might be punching holes in your keyboard with your fingers while driving in Redline.
Feel better bud.

Ahw bummer indeed, all the best GP, cu soon.
GT4 tourney anyone?
Time goes by fast...
anyone interested in a gt4 tournament?
the GT4 cars seem to be close to even.
I do think about a tournament lasting long (2-3 months, one race a week) - missing some races should not be a problem.
Many new tracks and the empty lobby somehow imply that either Redline is dead (which it is not afaik) or you are all waiting for something - or summertime is just having an impact.
My basic idea is to start a GT4 tourney with the cars we get as well as some more if my preferred tweakers find time to get it on their schedule (Tomte, thomm, a-rod - anyone?).
On new tracks like Virginia, mid-ohio, nordschleife, dunington, thruxton, Mount Panorama and akagi - aswell as evergreens like spa, black forest, bardagi, pembrey - changes might occur.
played in sim only - one organizer - no stewards. Using ELO ranking for ease of setup (missed races, multiple groups) which takes into account only the time used to finish the tracks for mid-long races (20-25 minutes each) for 10-14 weeks.
pretty simple, final could be around x-mas - but i dont really care.
please tell me if there is interest or not so i can put my thoughts into plans or just forget about them.
hope you are all well and happy

Re: Race Series in 2010
Ok, where are we with the cars.
I think in terms of performance, they are close. The 350Z appears slightly quicker than the rest, the never dying 968 is on the slow side. The (Z3) M Coupe is tricky, the XLR is a fat lady.
One of the reasons for the non-existing progress is my lack of access to the 3D models of the Z4 M Coupe and the Caddilac, which means I cannot change/prepare the UV maps. The maps of the 968 is messy as ever, the Z3 got an overhaul and is now easier to manipulate.
I already contacted Andreu and Don about it, but neither of them seems to have time to whip up customisable UV map. And I understand why, the BMWs is pretty space efficient, the Caddy's is fragmented. Also, the 4 cars under my supervision still have the road car interior.
So my basic gripe with the GT4 cars as they are now is the slight speed advantage of the 350Z and the not at all race car appearances of the remaining 4 cars.
If you can live with that, I can release "my" 4 cars as Version 1.0 quite quickly. If you feel they need more work than that, I will have to pass.
Anybody wanting to take over?

The soap box and other "organized" races going on in the Redline forum are all very tempting, but I think I'll stick with your proposal, if there's enough interest..

If you need a slightly slower 350z, tell me what changes you think would be appropriate, or if some good and efficient car developer wants to slow it down a bit, well, he is allowed to …
Of course, if someone wants to make new skins, I can upload a .psd

Re: Race Series in 2010
did someone say gt4 tourney???
yea alf i think the summer is playing a huge part in the redline volume yet once it starts to get colder the addicts will have to start coming back indoors and finding the ol' redline vein so to speak ... as to myself i recently have gotten my sundays open and free from work so i look forward to something then if possible

Re: Race Series in 2010
I had a read through the GT4 specifications thread, just to remind myself where we are. I haven't participated in Gt4 races for a long time, so I'm totally dependant on your input.
Looks like only the Nissan needs some work, (without wanting to go too much into detail) I propose either/or higher FAR, higher weight or slightly smaller (front?) tires. Stock tires seem to be 245 and 265 front and rear, I remember that you chose wider tires. I think I did the same with on of my cars, but this is an area where we can play with.
Looking through my PMs, I also found that Andreu gave me permission to do stuff on his Z4. There seems to be some material on the LOL FTP, I will need to check out what's there in terms of 3d model and skin files.
If anybody wants to take over one of my cars, please let me know. Of course, I would prefer if Don (yes, I'm looking at you, mate) does some magic on the paint jobs of the Caddy, so that I can concentrate on the rest.
I will not be able to put as much energy and time into the GT4 cars as I did with the TCCs, now that I have regular working hours and Mini-Tomte on its way.

Re: Race Series in 2010
Thanks for all replies on the gt4 call.
Looks like not too much work is needed till a gt4 tournament can be planned.
I am ready for it in no time - currently my availability and time-planning looks good for till the end of the year - but much is in the dust.
so - please let me know if i can be of any help with tweaking the cars or doing something - ill wait until versions 1 of the gt4's are out.
will do some test-laps soon and let you know about the "equilibrium".
thank - alf

@alphonse : I've done some tests many months ago, it could be interesting to compare our results. After you've done your tests, could we meet online one evening and try to bring the 350z back with the other cars ?

Now that we appear to move towards a GT4 tournament, shall we move this discussion to the GT4 Specifications thread?

I see that their is a new series started wish I had the time to race looks like much fun. Good luck to all and have fun. I will be racing some soon.
Good day G.P.
ps Now that their is a new series I cancel mine till further notice.
