RL GT4 tournament

Post  Tomte on Wed May 06, 2009 12:57 pm

I wonder what the interest would be in a GT4 tournament. Not that I want to organise or run one, there are far more competent people out there. As usual, I'm more into the technical side of things.

Possible cars for a GT4 tournament could be (sourced here and here):
  • Audi TT (build-in)
  • BMW Z4 M Coupe
  • Caterham (thomm®)
  • KTM X-Bow
  • Ford Mustang
  • Lotus Exige (thomm®)
  • Maserati Grand Tourisma (build-in)
  • Nissan 350Z
  • Porsche 968 turbo RS

Of course, this would mean some half baked .car file tweaking and a bit of modelling work, followed by strict Smile performance evaluations.
As thomm's® cars don't seem to be available for tweaking, maybe they should form the basis of the envisaged performance envelope.

At the same time, I would retire the 968 GT3.

I have to add a car to this list as three variants of it are already found in Redline, too Smile

Always interested in a high quality tournament. Smile

That sounds very limiting to me. I would most certainly not want to see thomm's cars hacked either so my vote is to leave them out entirely.

Why?

Nah, leave it in for the low budget privateer teams! Wink

Hi everyone, I'm back from my two-month away period. bounce

I agree - and I also have a way around the problem. During the time when I was supposed to finish writing my master's thesis (I did eventually), time was wasted on modeling some cars.

Cars that I modeled that may fit in a GT4 category: Vauxhall VX220, Caterham 7, Morgan Aero 8, Noble M12, Marcos Mantis.
I've also seen a free model of a Nissan 350Z posted on one of these banner-infested public domain sites.

I find all the cars that I mentioned above rather uninspiring, so I won't make a .car file out of them. If anyone is interested in developing one or more of the cars, I'll send you the files.

Ok, so there is some interest, good. Smile

Thomm's cars together with the KTM would have been in the GT4 supersport category, but maybe it is not practicable to have 2 categories in one tournament. Ok, so they are out for the moment.

Generally I would like to see the Vauxhall and the Morgan in Redline, but the latter might fit better into GT3. But I would not actually exclude them.

My idea was to use the model base already out there to minimize the development time. Balancing these cars will be tough enough, I'd like to have a better result as the current GT3 class.

My reasoning behind retiring the 968 GT3 is that I feel that it is a bit out of place in this class, being from the last century and all. I imagine that the GT4 as a privateer race class is also more open to old hacks like the 968.
Lastly, I don't want to flood Redline with a 5th installment of this car. It's true Porsche style, I know, but still.
I haven't made my mind up about this anyway.

In the next couple of days I will open a topic in the development section of LoL to discuss the technical parameters.
