Redline Alert
Hi everyone!

Just finished the development and testing of the Redline Alert tool for background monitoring of who's in the game. Unlike several other tracker tools that just refresh the page every now and then, this one makes an effort to present information nicely and basing on the list of friends' names that you enter, give you heads up when they come into multiplayer.
This initial version is all I really need myself, but I will be adding some other features to it (like Growl notifications, sound alarms etc) a bit later. Ok, enough buzz, here we go:
http://blog.noizeramp.com/redline-goodies/
Hope you enjoy it!
P.S. To avoid confusion -- see the checked flag in the menu bar (next to your clock) changing states when your friends come online
P.S.S. To avoid any further confusion -- check the built-in help

Re: Redline Alert
That is slinky.
This could be very helpful. Growl support would be better still. Thanks!

Damn, it's Leopard only.
Are you able to get it work with Tiger too?

Let me see if I can. It's a bit tricky since I use Obj-C 2.0 features, but probably worth it.

Done. Go grab it.
It appears 10.4 doesn't have SO many things. I'll try to keep Tiger-compatibility as long as I can.

Re: Redline Alert
As mentioned in the lobby, I would love also to have optional Growl alerts when in-progress games are finished.
Thanks again for this nice application.

Re: Redline Alert
Nice little app alg, +1 on the Growl notification.
I wonder what more could be up your sleeve?
EDIT: I took a look up the sleeve (on your main page) and saw your cool idea to make dictionary lookups less tiresome. I wish spotlight worked the same way, maybe you should speak to Steve about that...

Re: Redline Alert
Cool app.
+1 on the Growl thing too.
Maybe you could have the menu bar icon change a little bit more when a friend shows up though. Hard to tell at a glance.

Redline Alert 2.0
You can stop voting for Growl support now... it's here, but wait, you probably know that already.
For those who didn't get the update yet:
If you totally out of sync, here's where you can get the latest greatest: http://blog.noizeramp.com/redline-goodies/
Enjoy!
For those who didn't get the update yet:
- Ignoring white space in driver names for better matching
- Improved 'in progress' detection
- Sorting races by names
- Growl notifications for friends coming online and races finishing
- Added game joining
- Changed inactive flag image to have more obvious change

Re: Redline Alert
Will be trying out the Growled-up version this evening.
The big remaining question is whether leo will use some alphanumerics in his player name so we know when the LoL server appears...

Not sure I follow you here. Lots of users have colors, images and other ... in their names, which are replaced by the ambrosia's tracker with spaces. Can't do much about it except, and that's what I added to this release, ignoring the spaces when matching your friends' names. If you want to catch "G U P P Y F I S H" online, you don't need to break all twenty of your fingers -- just type "guppyfish". Does that answer your question?
As for growl... it's fun, and it gets even more fun when people name their games after themselves, like "David". Then the growl message says "David has finished". If you know what I mean ...

Re: Redline Alert
His current "name" is simply an image, no text at all, so he shows up on the tracker as an empty line...
So, unless you can extract hidden characters, we're stuck.

Re: Redline Alert
I have to say that I like your little application. Growl support works well, the friend list a is great idea.
I noticed that the web tracker also does not publish if a race is password protected or not, therefore we get no information on that on Redline Alert. But this is a small problem, I guess there is nothing you can do about it.
Thanks a lot for this little helper!

We are. I can show only what's on the official web tracker. They don't have, you can't see it.

Why do I get the feeling Leo will be quite pleased to remain "black ops" even with this new tool?

Growl notifications work a treat. This is going to make it so much nicer waiting to join a long race or tournament game - now I can do some TT while I wait instead of just idle in the lobby watching the kids insult each other. And now if I am working and I notice some of my Redline friends come online, I can jump into MP and ask if they would like some company for a race.
Marvellous work, alg.
